Here is a Bostonian kit by Real Good Toys pictured
before and after it was customized. The customer
felt that a larger front door would be more
in scale with the facade. She also wanted a
two floor addition on one side and a conservatory
on the other. The interior design was also
customized. The original Bostonian offers ten
rooms, two of them narrow hallways. We moved
a second floor wall to one side, opening up
the landing to accommodate furniture. The addition
of a removal rear facing wall provides for
an accessible bathroom. The third floor bedroom
on the right posed a problem with its severely
sloping roof which made furniture placement
difficult. The roof was "bumped out" to enlarge
the roof without destroying the lines of the
house. In addition, the bedroom window was
converted to a French door for access to the
balcony.

Wooden
chimneys were built and positioned to allow
for accurate placement of fireplaces. The chimneys
were modelled to allow the customer ease in
creating a faux slate and stone look. The two
story addition was built to specs, the conservatory
is another RGT kit which was modified to match
the floor level of the main house.

Other
custom details include the fan medallion which
replaced shingles in the small front peak,
copper "flashing" along each ell, handmade
dormer windows with copper roofing, and handmade
shingles in three designs.
